(09/04/2008) London, New York, Milan & Paris - Fashion Weeks Autumn/Winter 2008/2009
Stylish furs are key for Autumn/Winter 2008/2009, this was evident at the recent catwalk shows in London, New York, Milan & Paris. At a time when the price of fur is at an all time high designers are using their imagination with striking results.
Bringing sophistication and glamour to the world of fashion, many designers opted to use fur in a variety of different ways for the coming winter season. Fur was apparent in many forms including full fur garments, trimmed garments and accessories.
London is known for creativity and it did not disappoint. Amanda Wakeley presented a fabulous, belted, black feathered mink sweater, Roksanda Ilincic revealed an arc-shouldered silver fox coat with pink satin. Gareth Pugh mixed black fox pom-poms with longhaired goat and Louise Goldin’s patterned knit parkas incorporated stunning silver fox trims.
A British Fur Trade Association spokesperson said: ‘As always, it is wonderful to see the amount of fur used by designers and the innovative way in which it is used today. It is very exciting for us to see the amount of fur shown in London but this is not surprising as we are at a time when UK sales of fur, fur trim and fur accessories have risen by nearly 20% from last year. Designers, especially in the UK, really are presenting the versatility of fur.'
Further designers showing fur in London included: House of Holland, Osman Yousefzada, PPQ, Avsh Alom Gur, Todd Lynn, Armand Basi, Roksanda Ilincic, Asprey. During the fashion weeks the well known London fur house, Hockley, launched its own Moon Collection, with stylish garments and accessories.
Further afield in New York Zang Toi displayed creativity with fur trimmings on coats and accessories. Menswear was strong with mink knitwear by Sean John along with mink and fox trims. In Milan Fendi struck gold, Lagerfeld showed mink and fox tinged with gold with dramatic effect. Jean-Paul Gaultier used a mix of fox, coyote and goat-hair, in the flamboyant collection displayed on the Paris catwalks. Mink and Swakara featured heavily in Paris.
