(08/06/2007) BFTA Fur Design Competition 2007

Results Announced

The British Fur Trade Association (BFTA) is pleased to announce the winners of the BFTA Fur Design Competition 2007.

The results are as follows:

First Prize – Budi Adji, Kingston University

Budi was chosen for his design of a Men’s knitted mink, cashmere and wool jumper in cream. Some of Budi's work can be viewed here.

Second Prize – Eyizera Phoenix, London College of Fashion

Eyizera was chosen for her design of a knitted bolero & dress incorporating lamb and mink.

Entrants were required to design a collection of garments and/or accessories incorporating the use of fur.  The purpose of the competition is to encourage students to appreciate the possibilities for using fur in fashion.

Prizewinners were selected because of their ability to design fur garments that were innovative and wearable.

As part of the project, a group of finalists attended a one day workshop where they learnt about fur and were introduced to the different techniques that are possible.

Following the results, First Prizewinner, Budi Adji, said: “The British Fur Trade Association competition meant a lot to me and I have gained valuable knowledge about the use of fur and its origins. The whole experience has been priceless and I hope that I will be able to continue my contribution to the trade in my future career as a designer.’

The winning garment will be put forward to the International Fur Trade Federation's (IFTF) design competition in 2008.
