(22/03/2007) Creativity & Fur in London
London, New York, Milan & Paris Fashion Weeks Autumn/Winter 2007/2008
Fur brings elegance and luxury to many new collections for Autumn/Winter 2007/2008. The catwalks of London, New York, Milan & Paris were abundant with creativity & fur. Reviewing recent Autumn/Winter 07/08 fashion weeks in the world's major fashion capitals, a British Fur Trade Association spokesperson said: ‘As always, it is great to see the amount of fur shown in London at a time when UK sales of fur, fur trim and fur accessories have risen by nearly 20% from last year. Designers, especially in the UK, really are pulling out all the stops in terms of innovation. It clearly shows that the trend here for fur is strong on and off the catwalk.’
For the forthcoming Autumn/Winter fur comes in many forms including full fur garments, trimmed garments and accessories. In Milan Fendi mixed striped chinchilla with full silver fox to produce a stunning coat. In New York Carolina Herrera used silver fox. In Paris Gaultier mixed fox with tartan.
At home, in the UK, fur continues to be big news – the London catwalks were awash with innovation and fur clearly took centre stage at many of the shows. London is well known for its creative talent and flair and the new collections did not disappoint.
Julien Macdonald’s collection featured an abundance of fur, with crystal and metallic mixed with sable, mink, chinchilla and fox. Biba showed a notable belted mink coat and a red feathered fox bolero along with fur accessories. Exciting pieces from milliner Stephen Jones included embroidered velvet and mink berets, mink trapper hats, and mink and crystal tiaras.
Daniel Scutt included a fabulous mink bomber jacket whilst Gareth Pugh displayed a black mink and clear plastic poncho among his designs. The list of designers using fur at the London shows was continuous - Jonathan Saunders, Amanda Wakeley, Christopher Kane, Aimee McWilliams, Nicole Farhi, Erdem, Kristian Aadnevik, Roksanda Ilincic. During the fashion weeks the well known London fur house, Hockley, launched its own Dragonfly Collection, with stylish garments and accessories for today’s young women.
International designers displaying their passion for fur include: Alberta Ferretti, Armani, Blumarine, Burberry Prorsum, Celine, Carolina Herrera, Carmen Marc Valvo, Cavalli, Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Donatella Versace, Doo-Ri Chung, Emanuel Ungaro, Ferragamo, Gucci, J Mendel, Luca Orlandi, Michael Kors, Missoni, Peter Som, Roksanda Ilincic, Sergio Rossi, Venexiana and Zang Toi.
