(20/03/2005) Fur on Show for Autumn/Winter 2005/2006

The recent fashion weeks for the coming A/W 05/06 have set the trends for the season ahead, with fur being key for many of the international designers showing in Paris, Milan, London and New York.

Designers displaying their love of fur included Fendi, Dolce & Gabbana, Dior, Lanvin, Versace, Armani, Gharani Strok, Clements Ribeiro, Julien Macdonald, John Galliano, Carolina Herrera and Marc Jacobs. The versatility and creativity of many was evident with the use of full furs and trimmed garments and accessories.

International fashion houses continue to use fur in new and exciting ways. Fur is clearly the choice for daywear through to eveningwear.

In Milan the elegance and style were obvious with Armani using white and black striped fox for daywear and mink for evening.

Closer to home, London was no exception with Julien Macdonald mixing fox, mink and chinchilla with Swarovski crystal-embellished sable. Clements Ribeiro combined brocades and organza with mink and fox in striking black and white.

British Fur Trade Association (BFTA) spokesperson, Andrea Martin said: "Fur trends continue to be strong with international designers continuing to explore the endless possibilities available when working with fur. In the UK sales of fur, fur trim and fur accessories have risen by a third from the previous year showing that the love of fur is transferring from the catwalks to the high street."
