![]() Label stating fur type in English and scientific Latin ![]() Origin Assured logo Consumer Assurance Origin Assured OA™ is a new fur industry initiative designed to promote transparency of product origin. Just as people wish increasingly to know the sources of their food, coffee and clothing, research among designers and consumers has shown that they too would like to know about the source of their fur. When consumers see the OA™ label they can be certain that, wild or farmed, the fur comes from a country where national or local regulations or standards governing fur production are in force. OA™ labels can only be used on items which are 100% Origin Assured fur. BFTA strongly advises customers and designers to ask for fur/garments with an attached OA™ hangtag. Only certain countries and species qualify for the OA™ mark at the moment. The label’s proper use is monitored by an independent international agency. For further information please visit the Origin Assured™ website. In addition to this, BFTA continues with its current fur labelling initiative, which promotes the labelling of all fur items with the name of the individual fur species in English and scientific Latin. All other EU members of the International Fur Trade Federation (IFTF), Norway and Switzerland have similar labelling initiatives in place. The initiative is mandatory for BFTA retail members, and is also open to non-BFTA members. For further details please contact: info@britishfur.co.uk
